Instruction for Authors

British Journal of Cancer Research welcomes all types of articles include research papers, reviews, mini-reviews, case reports, case series, and short research communications in all areas of cancer. Manuscripts should be submitted in English.

Plagiarism Policy

Plagiarism is the presentation of another person’s work or ideas as one’s own without proper attribution. All manuscripts are screened for plagiarism before, during, and after publication. Any manuscript found to contain plagiarized content will be rejected or withdrawn at any stage of processing.

Article Types

British Journal of Cancer welcomes the following types of articles, including but not limited to:

  • Original Research Articles
    Full-length reports of novel experimental, clinical, or translational research findings.

  • Review Articles
    Comprehensive and critical overviews of recent developments in specific areas of cancer research .

  • Mini-Reviews
    Concise reviews focusing on emerging topics or recent advances.

  • Short Communications
    Brief reports of significant preliminary findings or novel observations.

  • Case Reports
    Detailed descriptions of rare or clinically significant cases.

  • Case Series
    Reports describing outcomes or observations from multiple related cases.

  • Clinical Studies / Clinical Trials
    Reports of clinical investigations with clearly described methodology and outcomes.

  • Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses
    Evidence-based reviews following recognized reporting guidelines (e.g., PRISMA).

  • Methods / Protocols
    Detailed descriptions of new or improved experimental or clinical methods.

  • Perspectives / Commentaries (Optional)
    Expert opinions on emerging trends, policies, or controversies in oncology.

Manuscript Submission Guidelines

  • Manuscripts must be prepared in Microsoft Word or PDF format.

  • All figures, schemes, and tables should be embedded in the manuscript.

  • A cover letter is mandatory and must describe the significance of the work and its relevance to the journal’s scope.

  • Submissions must be original, unpublished, and not under consideration elsewhere.

  • All authors must approve the submission.

  • Research involving humans or animals must include ethical approval statements.

  • Authors must disclose conflicts of interest and funding sources.

  • Authors are responsible for the accuracy of their submissions.

Format For Publication

Title Page

On the first page, include the title of the article, full names of all authors, and the name and address of the department or laboratory where the work was performed. Provide 4–6 keywords. Indicate the corresponding author with an asterisk (*) and include their contact information (email address is required; telephone number is optional).

Abstract

A concise and factual abstract is required and should not exceed 250 words. The abstract should not contain citations to references. It should briefly state the purpose of the research, the principal results, and the major conclusions.

Keywords

Immediately after the abstract, provide 3–6 relevant keywords.

Abbreviations

List abbreviations in a single paragraph using the format: term: definition; term: definition.

Introduction

The Introduction should provide the necessary background and context to support the importance of the work being reported. A brief summary of the major findings may be included at the end of the Introduction.

Materials And Methods

Provide sufficient detail to allow others to replicate and build upon the published results. New methods and protocols should be described in detail, while well-established methods may be briefly described with appropriate citations. Please include the name and version of any software or tools used.

Results

Results should be presented clearly and concisely.

Discussion

The Discussion should interpret the significance of the results rather than repeat them. A combined Results and Discussion section is acceptable. Avoid excessive citation or repetition of previously published literature.

Conclusion

The main conclusions of the study may be presented in a short Conclusion section, which may stand alone or form a subsection of the Discussion or Results and Discussion section.

Ethics Approval and Consent to Participate

All research involving human participants must comply with the Declaration of Helsinki and relevant institutional and national guidelines. Authors must state the name of the ethics committee or institutional review board (IRB) that approved the study and provide the approval number where applicable. Informed consent must be obtained from all participants.

For studies involving animals, authors must confirm that all procedures complied with institutional and national guidelines for animal care and use and must provide the approval details of the relevant ethics committee.

Clinical Trial Registration

All clinical trials must be registered in a publicly accessible registry (e.g., ClinicalTrials.gov, CTRI, WHO ICTRP) prior to participant enrollment. The registration number and registry name must be included in the manuscript.

Reporting Guidelines

Authors are encouraged to follow relevant reporting guidelines to ensure transparency and completeness:

  • CONSORT – Randomized controlled trials

  • PRISMA – Systematic reviews and meta-analyses

  • STROBE – Observational studies

  • CARE – Case reports

  • ARRIVE – Animal studies

A completed checklist and flow diagram (where applicable) should be submitted as supplementary material.

Data Availability Statement

All manuscripts must include a Data Availability Statement describing how the data supporting the findings can be accessed. Examples:

  • “The datasets generated and/or analyzed during the current study are available from the corresponding author upon reasonable request.”

  • “All relevant data are included within the article and its supplementary files.”

  • “The datasets are available in [repository name] under accession number [XXXX].”

Acknowledgements

List individuals who provided assistance during the research (e.g., language editing, writing assistance, or proofreading). All sources of funding must be disclosed. Clearly indicate any grants received in support of the research.

Conflicts Of Interest

Authors must declare any personal or financial relationships that could be perceived as influencing the reported work. If no conflicts exist, please state: “The authors declare no conflict of interest.”

Author Contributions

Each author’s contribution must be clearly described (e.g., study design, data collection, analysis, manuscript drafting, and approval of final version).

Funding Statement

Authors must declare all sources of funding for the research. If no specific funding was received, please state:

This research received no external funding.

References

Please ensure that every reference cited in the text is included in the reference list (and vice versa). References should be numbered consecutively starting from 1.

References must be cited in the manuscript using numbers in square brackets (e.g., [1,2,3]) and not by author name and year. Avoid citing personal communications and unpublished observations in the reference list. Do not format references as footnotes.

Please use the PubMed reference format as follows:

Author surname Initials, Other author surnames Initials. Article title. Journal name abbreviation. Year; Volume: First page–Last page.

Supplementary Material

Supplementary files may include datasets, videos, and figures. Label as Figure S1, Table S1, etc.

Publication Ethics

The journal follows the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) Code of Conduct and Best Practice Guidelines.

License

Articles are published under the Creative Commons Attribution (CC BY) License. Authors retain copyright while granting the journal first publication rights

Peer Review

After successful completion of the initial editorial screening, the manuscript is assigned to at least two independent expert reviewers for peer review. The journal operates a single-blind review process, in which reviewers are aware of the authors’ identities, while reviewer identities are not disclosed to authors. Peer-review reports are confidential and are shared with authors only as part of the editorial decision process. Reviewer identities are disclosed only with the reviewer’s explicit consent.

Production & Publication

Once accepted, the manuscript will undergo professional copy-editing, language editing, author proofing, final corrections, pagination, and online publication on the journal website. Articles are published online shortly after receipt of the approved proofs.

Reprints

Reprints may be ordered after copy-editing and publication. Reprints are available upon request. For pricing and ordering information, please contact the Editorial Office.

Publication Charges

Payment instructions will be sent once the manuscript is accepted. Payment can be made by credit card or bank transfer. The publication fee is required to cover the costs of editorial processing and open-access publication. The article processing charge (APC) for this journal is GBP 1,090. Full or partial fee waivers may be available for authors experiencing financial hardship.

Withdrawal Policy

Manuscript withdrawal after peer review or acceptance requires written justification signed by all authors. The publisher reserves the right to withdraw articles found to violate ethical standards.

Authors who are unable to pay the article processing charge (APC) may apply for a full or partial waiver. Waiver requests will be considered on a case-by-case basis. For waiver inquiries, please contact the Editorial Office at editorialoffice@makpl.org.
